Rich Turner

Fiddle & Accordion

Performance - Tuition - Composition

It's been a long journey.

From eight-hour practise sessions in the spare bedroom of his parents' council house in the Summer of 1984 at the age of 18, through busking by day, and leading bands at pubs, parties, cabarets and concerts by night, to being (probably) the first English fiddler to perform in Kolkata for 200 years, in 2001.

It has also been a circular one. After a post-graduate, London-based,  career in arts journalism and market research, Rich returned to his hometown of Winchester in 2016, and his first love of music, renting a fiddle and taking to the streets again, to popular acclaim.

In 2020, Rich was asked to give some online lessons. He rather enjoys that, too.

"Great live music!" - Audience reaction.

Rich has given confident and assured performances in a wide variety of settings, from street to stage, in pubs, arts centres, theatres and concert halls.

He is available to book for any event.

"As a complete beginner, it's been great playing popular tunes right from the off, learning about the different styles of fiddle music whilst learning bowing and fingering techniques as we go on. I look forward to my lesson with Rich every week."

- Nadia, South Wales

A patient, encouraging and enthusiastic teacher, Rich offers individually tailored, half-hour weekly fiddle lessons over Zoom, at a pace that matches your progress and at a time of your  convenience. The price is surprisingly affordable, too.

Rich enjoys composing and arranging original music. It was one of his strengths as a student, and he is happy to take on commissioned pieces, whether as a personal gift or for commercial use.
